How the practice does it now
An article assistant downloads the Annual Information Statement and Form 26AS, exports the client’s ledgers and goes through interest, dividends, sales and TDS entries one by one in Excel. Differences go into a working sheet, and the partner decides what explains each one.
How it goes with Cowork
- The AIS and 26AS downloads and the relevant ledger exports go into a working folder, with the PAN and account numbers masked where possible.
- The brief explains which categories to compare, the tolerance for rounding and the format of the reconciliation the firm uses.
- Cowork builds the reconciliation workbook: matched entries, entries only in the AIS, entries only in the books, and amount differences.
- It drafts a short note summarising the unexplained differences for the partner.
- The partner reviews, decides the position and prepares the response; Cowork never logs into the income-tax portal.
The judgement stays with the qualified person. What changes is the hours of manual matching before the judgement can start.
