THE LIST

The 10 best ChatGPT trainers in the UK, in detail

Selection reflected the UK's emphasis on lifting AI skills across the whole workforce, including small businesses, so I included providers serving SMEs and non-technical teams as well as enterprise-scale programmes. Each provider had to publish ChatGPT-specific training, and I looked closely at how courses treat UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, usually the first topic a data protection officer raises.

How to choose a ChatGPT trainer in the UK

CONTEXT

The UK's 10 million worker AI skills drive and ChatGPT training

In January 2026 the UK government widened its AI skills partnership with industry, aiming to give 10 million workers, roughly a third of the workforce, key AI skills by 2030. Free short AI foundations courses had already passed one million completions since June 2025, and partners now include the NHS, the Federation of Small Businesses and the Institute of Directors. Foundations courses build awareness; employers then look for practical ChatGPT training that applies those basics to their own documents and processes.

Data protection is the constant backdrop. UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 govern personal data in prompts, and the Information Commissioner's Office has published guidance on AI and data protection that many DPOs use as a reference. Sector regulators add their own expectations in financial services, health and legal work. The provider market is broad, spanning specialist AI trainers, established IT training firms, business schools and online catalogues, with in-person team training in London and regional cities alongside live online delivery.

QUESTIONS

ChatGPT training in the UK: FAQ

Under UK GDPR, a data protection impact assessment is required where processing is likely to result in high risk to individuals, and many organisations complete one for generative AI as good practice. The ICO’s guidance on AI and data protection is a helpful reference. Training content should reflect the outcome, so staff know which uses are approved.

Usually, yes. Small firms often have no IT or data team, so training needs to cover account set-up, simple data rules and quick wins in sales, marketing and admin. Enterprise programmes add workspace administration, departmental custom GPTs and governance. Providers such as Hartz AI focus on SMEs, while others on this list specialise in large rollouts.

The free foundations courses give UK workers a shared baseline of AI awareness, which is a useful starting point. Paid ChatGPT training goes further by applying the tool to an organisation’s own documents, setting up shared workspaces and custom GPTs, and agreeing rules for data use. Many employers ask staff to complete a free course before team workshops.

Imperial College London Executive Education is the university option on this list, suited to leaders who want a recognised credential and a strategic view of generative AI. Other UK business schools also run AI programmes. For hands-on ChatGPT skills inside your own workflows, many organisations pair an executive course with in-house team training.

Fees vary with headcount, format, location, customisation and follow-up, so headline figures rarely compare like for like. Issue one brief to every provider you are considering and request proposals in writing. Then compare how each covers UK GDPR, whether custom GPTs are created live in the sessions, and what support continues once training ends.
