THE LIST

The 10 best Generative AI trainers in Japan, in detail

Japan has a deep domestic market for corporate AI education, so I weighed curriculum structure, Japanese-language delivery and evidence of company-wide programmes. English-language options were included for foreign-affiliated firms and global teams, and I paid attention to how each provider handles personal data in line with Japan's privacy law, the APPI.

Hitesh Motwani

Japanese clients usually bring me in for English-language GenAI programmes aimed at global teams, regional headquarters and managers who work across borders, with exercises on bilingual reports, meeting summaries and cross-market research. Mitsui & Co. is among the organisations I have trained, part of 200,000+ learners in 16+ countries, and the working method comes from Generative AI 360°, the book I wrote for ZebraLearn in 2025.

How to choose a Generative AI trainer in Japan

CONTEXT

Japan's AI Promotion Act and the corporate GenAI training market

Passed by the Diet in May 2025, Japan's AI Promotion Act had most of its provisions in force by the following month. Rather than restricting AI, the Act promotes it: it creates a Cabinet-level AI Strategy Headquarters chaired by the Prime Minister and directs the government to build a skilled AI workforce, in line with Japan's ambition to become the world's most AI-friendly country. For companies, that policy stance supports investment in generative AI and in the training that makes it useful.

Japan already has one of Asia's most developed corporate AI education markets. Specialist firms such as AVILEN, Kikagaku and Skillup AI build structured curricula, online platforms like SHIFT AI and Aidemy Business support training at scale, and business schools such as GLOBIS teach managers to apply generative AI to strategy. Nearly all of this is delivered in Japanese. Personal data is governed by Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI), and many companies also publish internal generative AI guidelines that training should reflect.

QUESTIONS

Generative AI training in Japan: FAQ

Yes, though most of the market teaches in Japanese. English options on this list include NobleProg Japan and my own programmes, which suit foreign-affiliated companies, global teams and managers who work in English. Some organisations run English sessions for international staff and a Japanese platform such as SHIFT AI or Aidemy Business for everyone else, keeping the same tool rules across both.

The Act, approved in May 2025, is promotion-focused: it sets up a Prime Minister-led AI Strategy Headquarters and directs the government to develop AI talent. It does not impose a training mandate on private companies. What it does is signal strong national support for AI adoption, which makes generative AI skills a sensible investment for employers planning DX programmes.

It helps a great deal. Many Japanese firms publish internal guidelines on which generative AI tools are approved and what information can be entered, often shaped by the APPI and by client confidentiality. Training then turns those guidelines into daily habits. If you have no guidelines yet, ask your provider to include a short policy workshop for managers before staff sessions begin.

Current models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft handle Japanese well for drafting, summarising and translation, though output still needs review, especially for honorifics and formal correspondence. Good training uses your own documents, compares Japanese and English prompting, and builds checks into the workflow. Ask providers to show sample exercises built on materials like yours.

Large rollouts in Japan often combine an online platform for baseline literacy with live workshops for priority departments and managers. Providers such as SHIFT AI and Aidemy Business focus on scale, while AVILEN and Skillup AI build structured in-house capability. Fees depend on headcount, licences and customisation, so request proposals that also show how progress will be measured.
