No-code or code?

Two paths into AI automation: which one is yours?

n8n is a visual workflow tool, so you can build a lot without writing code. But the moment you call APIs, transform JSON or self-host, a little technical comfort goes a long way. Pick your path before you pick a course.

No-code path (operations, marketing, HR, finance)

  • Start with n8n’s Quickstart or Simplilearn’s free course (entries 1 and 5)
  • Use n8n Cloud so you do not manage a server
  • Learn triggers, the AI Agent node and approvals before anything else
  • Zapier Academy (entry 7) if your company already runs on Zapier

Technical path (developers, data and IT teams)

  • Do the full n8n Foundations track, including N8N102 on APIs and webhooks
  • Self-host with Docker and learn the Code and HTTP Request nodes
  • Go deeper with the Coursera specialisation or the long Udemy course (entries 2 and 3)
  • Add MCP, evaluations and error handling for production work
The list

Top 7 n8n and AI automation courses for 2026-27

Each entry covers what you learn, who it suits, pros and cons, cost and certificate, with a link to the source page. The official n8n Academy comes first because it is free and matches the current product; deeper paid courses and free alternatives follow.

1

n8n Academy: Foundations (N8N101, N8N102, N8N103) and Quickstart

OfficialFreeGraded
Best for: anyone learning n8n: it is the vendor’s own course and the most accurate

n8n replaced its old text courses in the docs with a new academy at learn.n8n.io. The Foundations track has three courses: Essentials (your first workflows), Integrations (APIs and connected workflows) and In Practice (AI, testing and best practices). A separate Quickstart gets you to a working AI Agent chatbot fast.

What you learn

  • Triggers, credentials, data structures, expressions and binary data
  • Sub-workflows, IF, Switch, Loop and Wait; error handling; the Code and HTTP Request nodes; webhooks and API authentication
  • AI nodes and the Agent node; testing, debugging and production readiness
  • Quickstart: scheduling, a data pipeline and an AI Agent with a chat model, memory and tools

Pros

  • Straight from n8n, so it matches the current product
  • Real grading: quizzes, hands-on workflow exercises and a final exam, 70% to pass

Watch out for

  • You need a publicly accessible n8n instance (Cloud trial or self-hosted)
  • Not a certification: n8n says its certification programme will launch later

Format: self-paced; Essentials takes most learners 2-4 hours, Integrations about 4-6 and In Practice 3-4. Cost: free to register; n8n Cloud has a free trial and self-hosting is free. Certificate: a badge and a certificate of completion.

Hitesh Motwani: live AI automation training for teams

Best for: teams who want automations running on their own processes, not just a certificate

This is live, corporate training, not a self-paced course, and it sits at number four: an individual learning n8n for themselves should start with the free official academy above. It earns its place with teams. Most automation projects stall not on the tool but on choosing the right process, handling exceptions and getting sign-off. In Hitesh’s sessions, people pick a repetitive task from their own week, map it, build it in the session and leave with a workflow they use the next morning. Across a team, that saved time compounds, so the organisation executes faster.

There are two tracks. The business track needs no code: n8n, Zapier or Make workflows with AI steps, plus agents in Copilot Studio, Gemini Gems or Claude, with approval steps before anything is sent. The technical track covers the HTTP Request and Code nodes, webhooks, self-hosting choices, the AI Agent node with tools and memory, MCP, evaluation and error handling.

Formats

  • Business teams (1 to 2 days): no-code automations built on your own processes
  • Technical teams (2 to 3 days, or a multi-week build): agents and workflows taken to production standard; see agentic AI training for teams
  • Leaders (half-day): where automation pays off, risk and a rollout plan
  • Individuals: 1-to-1 coaching, or the live AI programme batches, which include no-code automation with Zapier, Make and n8n

Cost: quoted per engagement. Certificate: this is training, not a certification. Disclosure: this guide is published on Hitesh Motwani’s own site.

5

Simplilearn SkillUp: n8n: No Code AI Agent Builder

FreeIndiaCertificate
Best for: a free n8n course with a certificate in an afternoon

A short, free video course from India’s Simplilearn that goes from n8n Cloud setup to a first AI agent, an email-labelling agent, self-hosting with Docker and multi-agent workflows.

What you learn

  • Automation basics and n8n Cloud setup

  • Building AI agents, including an email-labelling agent
  • Self-hosting with Docker; multi-agent workflows

Pros

  • Completely free, certificate included
  • Covers both Cloud and self-hosting

Watch out for

  • Video only, with no graded projects
  • Access expires after 90 days; the certificate is not an official n8n one

Format: self-paced video, about 3 hours, 90 days of access. Cost: free. Certificate: free completion certificate from Simplilearn.

6

DataCamp: Introduction to Workflow Automation with n8n

Paid3 hoursInteractive
Best for: people who learn best by doing short exercises in the browser

A compact DataCamp course with 10 videos and 32 interactive exercises. It covers the canvas and logic, then uses agent nodes to classify and summarise, and ends with a capstone onboarding pipeline.

What you learn

  • Canvas, triggers and nodes, including a live API call
  • If and Switch logic and expressions
  • JSON flattening and the Merge node
  • Agent nodes to classify and summarise; a capstone pipeline

Pros

  • Very hands-on for a short course
  • Good bridge if you already use DataCamp for data skills

Watch out for

  • Introductory only: three chapters
  • Agent examples centre on one model provider

Format: 3 hours, 10 videos, 32 exercises. Cost: DataCamp subscription; the course can be started free. Certificate: Statement of Accomplishment.

7

Zapier Academy: learning paths (Jumpstart, AI Builder, MCP)

OfficialFreeZapier
Best for: teams that already use Zapier, or anyone comparing it with n8n

Zapier’s free academy has short learning paths, from a 20-minute Jumpstart to a 105-minute AI Builder path and a 55-minute MCP path, plus courses on basic and intermediate Zaps. It is not about n8n, but the automation ideas carry over.

What you learn

  • Jumpstart: your first Zap
  • AI Builder path: AI steps and agentic workflows
  • MCP path: connecting AI assistants to apps
  • Account admin essentials

Pros

  • Free, with a certificate of completion you can add to LinkedIn
  • Very short; good for busy managers

Watch out for

  • Zapier-only
  • Light on depth compared with entries 1-3

Format: short video paths, 20-105 minutes each. Cost: free with a free Zapier account. Certificate: certificate of completion.

Source: Zapier Academy, checked October 2026.

Also worth knowing: Edureka’s Build AI Agents with n8n on Coursera (beginner, about 8 hours) is a shorter alternative to entry 3. On Udemy, the Complete AI Automation and Agentic AI Bootcamp with n8n (28 hours) is a second long option. In India, the EICTA consortium at IIT Kanpur runs a live Generative AI and Workflow Automation using n8n course (₹7,999 including GST, aimed at engineering students; the last batch has closed, so check for the next). Make offers a free Make Foundation badge through its academy. If your company runs on Microsoft 365, the free Power Automate paths on Microsoft Learn and the PL-900 Power Platform Fundamentals exam are the closest equivalent.

Disclosure: this guide is published by Hitesh Motwani, whose live training is entry 4. Every other entry was checked on its provider’s own page in October 2026 and links to its source. Prices change, especially on Udemy, so confirm on the provider’s page before you pay.

For teams

Want automations running on real work, not just a certificate?

Tell us your team size, roles and the processes you want to automate. Hitesh will suggest a format: a no-code business track, a technical build track, or a leadership briefing, run on your own work.

  • Operations, finance and HR: approvals, reconciliations, onboarding and reporting
  • Sales and marketing: lead routing, CRM updates, content and reporting workflows
  • Engineering and IT: self-hosting, APIs, MCP and AI agents with guardrails

Self-hosted or Cloud?

n8n self-hosted vs n8n Cloud: what to use while you learn

Almost every n8n course asks you to choose. Here is the difference, from n8n’s own pricing page and licence docs in October 2026. n8n shows Cloud prices in euros; the Business plan (€667 a month billed annually) is self-hosted only.

Skills checklist

What a good n8n course should cover in 2026

n8n changes quickly, and plenty of courses still teach agent setups n8n has retired. Use this checklist, based on the current n8n docs, to judge any syllabus.

Workflow basics

  • Triggers, schedules and webhooks
  • Expressions and the JSON data structure n8n passes between nodes
  • IF, Switch, Loop, Merge and sub-workflows
  • The HTTP Request node for any API, and credentials

AI agents in n8n

  • The AI Agent node: every agent now works as a tools agent, and needs at least one tool sub-node
  • Cluster nodes: a root node with sub-nodes for chat model, memory and tools
  • RAG with vector stores, embeddings and document loaders
  • MCP: the MCP Server Trigger and the MCP Client Tool

Production and safety

  • Human approval before an AI Agent runs a chosen tool, via n8n Chat, Slack, Teams, Gmail and more
  • Evaluations: testing AI output against known cases
  • Error workflows, retries and logging
  • Personal-data rules, such as India’s DPDP Act

Sources: AI Agent node, LangChain in n8n, MCP Server Trigger, human-in-the-loop for tools and evaluations on docs.n8n.io, checked October 2026.

n8n, Zapier or Make?

Zapier is the easiest to start; Make is visual and flexible; n8n can be self-hosted, handles complex logic and code well, and has strong AI agent features. For a team already on Microsoft 365, Power Automate and Copilot Studio may be the natural choice. Learn the ideas once and they transfer.

Automation or agent?

A fixed automation follows the same steps every time; an agent decides which tools to use. Start with plain automations for predictable work, and add an AI step or an agent only where judgement is needed, with an approval step before anything risky.

How to choose

How to choose an n8n or AI automation course that fits your job

Three questions settle most decisions: are you technical, do you need a certificate, and are you learning for yourself or for a team?

If you are learning for yourself

  • Always start with the free n8n Academy (entry 1): it is the most accurate
  • Want a free certificate fast: Simplilearn (entry 5)
  • Want depth on agents, RAG and MCP: Coursera (entry 3) or the long Udemy course (entry 2)
  • Build three automations on your own work before paying for anything

If you are buying for a team

  • Start from processes, not tools: list the repetitive tasks first
  • Decide Cloud or self-hosted with IT before training starts
  • Insist on approval steps and data rules for anything AI touches
  • Ask for a business track and a technical track

Is there an official n8n certification?

Not yet. n8n’s academy gives a badge and a certificate of completion and says a certification programme will launch later. Any course calling itself an “official n8n certification” today is not. For AI credentials more broadly, see our guide to AI certifications in India.

Free or paid?

The free official academy teaches the core well. Pay for what it lacks: long project-based practice, AI agent depth, or a structured multi-course path with a shareable certificate.

The case for live team training

Automation pays off on small, repeated tasks: matching invoices, routing leads, compiling reports. Teams get there faster when a trainer helps them pick the right processes and build them on their own data and tools.

Going further with agents? See our guide to the best agentic AI courses in India, or ask about automation training for your team.

Sample learning path

A 4-week n8n starter path on the free official courses

About three to four hours a week. Everything here is free, and by the end you will know whether a paid course is worth it for you.

1

Week 1: Set up and first workflows

Start an n8n Cloud trial or self-host with Docker. Complete n8n’s Quickstart or N8N101 and build one workflow that saves you time this week.

2

Week 2: APIs and webhooks

Work through N8N102: the HTTP Request node, webhooks, error handling and sub-workflows. Connect one tool your team really uses.

3

Week 3: Add AI

Do N8N103. Add the AI Agent node with a chat model, memory and one tool, and put an approval step in front of any action that sends or changes data.

4

Week 4: Go deeper or go live

Pick a paid course for agents, RAG and MCP, or bring live training to your team and automate real processes together.

FAQ

n8n and AI automation courses: questions answered

Start with n8n’s own Foundations track on the n8n Academy (learn.n8n.io): it is free to register, graded, matches the current product and ends with a badge and a certificate of completion. For more depth on AI agents, RAG and MCP, the LearnKartS specialisation on Coursera and the long Udemy course “n8n – AI Agents, AI Automations & AI Voice Agents” are the strongest paid options.

Yes. n8n’s academy gives a badge and a certificate of completion when you pass (70% or more). Simplilearn’s free n8n course includes a free completion certificate, Udemy and DataCamp give certificates or statements of completion, and the Coursera specialisation gives a shareable certificate.

Not yet. n8n’s academy says its courses are not a certification and that a certification programme will launch later. Be wary of any course that calls itself an official n8n certification today.

The self-hosted Community Edition is free to use under n8n’s Sustainable Use License, which covers internal business, personal and non-commercial use; you pay for your own server. n8n Cloud is paid, from €20 a month (Starter, billed annually), with a free trial.

If you are not technical, use n8n Cloud’s free trial so you can focus on workflows. If you are a developer or your data must stay in-house, self-host with Docker. n8n’s own courses work with either, as long as the instance is publicly accessible.

Yes. Most workflows are built visually, and the AI Agent node is configured, not coded. Some comfort with JSON and APIs helps a lot; n8n’s N8N102 course teaches the HTTP Request node, webhooks and API authentication step by step. The Code node is optional.

You can build useful workflows after the free Quickstart or N8N101, which most people finish in a few hours. The full Foundations track takes roughly 9-14 hours by n8n’s own estimates. Getting good at AI agents and production workflows takes a few weeks of building on real tasks.

It is the root node for AI agents in n8n. Since version 1.82.0, every AI Agent node works as a tools agent and needs at least one tool sub-node. You attach a chat model, optional memory and tools as sub-nodes. n8n’s AI features are built on LangChain’s JavaScript framework.

Yes. The MCP Server Trigger lets MCP clients call n8n workflows as tools, and the MCP Client Tool lets an n8n AI Agent use tools from an external MCP server. Look for MCP in any advanced course syllabus.

For most people in India, the free n8n Academy plus Simplilearn’s free n8n course with a certificate is the best start, with Coursera or Udemy for depth. For live classes, the EICTA consortium at IIT Kanpur runs a paid n8n course aimed at engineering students. Teams usually get more from live training on their own processes.

Learn the one your company uses. Zapier is the easiest to start, Make is visual and flexible, and n8n can be self-hosted, handles complex logic and has strong AI agent features. All three have free official academies, and the ideas transfer between them.

A short, live programme built around your own processes usually beats sending people on separate online courses. Look for a no-code business track, a technical track, approval steps and clear data rules. Hitesh Motwani runs AI automation training for teams online and onsite in India and the UAE.
