An eight-month programme from IIM Kozhikode with Kellogg Executive Education, delivered by Emeritus. It combines 19 online modules, 10+ live online sessions and an eight-week Kellogg online course with a three-day immersion in Dubai, which the FAQ calls an integral part of the programme. The page says it is not for anyone seeking coding or tool training.

Hitesh Motwani: hands-on AI training for leadership teams
This is leadership-focused live training, not a CAIO certificate, and it sits at number six. If you want the credential and the cohort network, the programmes above are the right answer. Where this earns its place is speed and specificity: founders, CXOs and their direct reports use ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot and AI agents on their own board papers, reports, emails and plans in the session, then agree where AI should and should not be used in the business.
The outcome is a shared leadership view: which use cases to back first, what data rules apply, who owns AI risk, and how to roll training out to teams so they work faster on their own tasks. It is often how organisations prepare before appointing a Chief AI Officer, or how a new CAIO gets the rest of the C-suite on side.

IIM Lucknow also lists a Chief Digital & AI Officer programme (₹4,52,500 plus GST) whose current batch began in June 2026. IITM Pravartak’s Future Chief Technology and AI Officer Programme (₹2,80,000 plus GST, 5+ years’ experience) is aimed at rising leaders rather than sitting CXOs. You will also see one-day “certified Chief AI Officer” exam courses online; they are vendor certificates, not university programmes.

What does a Chief AI Officer do?
A CAIO decides where AI creates value, sets the rules for safe and lawful use, owns AI risk and drives adoption across the business. In practice they work closely with the CTO, CDO, CISO, CFO and HR, and report to the CEO or a senior executive.
How do I become a Chief AI Officer?
Most CAIOs come from senior technology, data, digital or business-transformation roles. Build a record of AI initiatives that delivered measurable results, learn the governance and economics side, and consider a programme for structure and network. No course guarantees the role.
Do I need a technical background for a CAIO course?
Not for most. IIM Kozhikode’s CAIO programme says it is not for people seeking coding training, and MBZUAI, ADSM and MIT Sloan are strategy-focused. Carnegie Mellon’s CDAIO and IIM Lucknow’s CTAIO lean more technical.
What is the difference between a CAIO and a CDAIO?
A Chief AI Officer focuses on AI strategy, risk and adoption across the business; a Chief Data and AI Officer also owns the data platforms and data governance AI depends on. Programmes follow the same split: CDAIO courses spend more time on data.
Which AI course is best for a CEO?
CEOs usually need judgement rather than tools: a short strategy course such as MIT Sloan’s six-week programme or MBZUAI’s five-day programme, plus a hands-on session using AI on their own work. Hitesh Motwani runs AI training for leaders, boards and CXOs.
Are online “certified Chief AI Officer” exams worth it?
One-day vendor exam courses with a “certified CAIO” title are inexpensive and quick, but they are not university programmes and carry less weight with boards. If you want a credential for a senior role, choose a business-school or university programme.
Does India require companies to have a Chief AI Officer?
We found no MeitY or RBI requirement for companies to appoint a CAIO as of October 2026. The UAE federal government has appointed AI chiefs across its entities, and US federal agencies designate Chief AI Officers under White House guidance.
